Kids On The Coast

School is out for summer!
On the coast of Ecuador, many kids and especially their parents are looking for something to do.
Unfortunately many Venezuelan refugees in Ecuador can’t pay for educational and fun summer programs. That’s why we’re happy to partner with Carmen P. López who has brought Ecuadorian and Venezuelan kids from Puerto Lopez together for a water sports camp.
Carmen has been on the water for over 20 years and has enjoyed teaching children the art of sailing, windsurfing, and kayaking for over 10 years. Carmen recently said “when I was a young girl, doing sports in the sea helped me in difficult moments, and so now I work to make the sea give happiness to children.” That’s perfect, because we also like sharing happiness with children!
When even basic rent is difficult for many Venezuelan families, extra activities like summer camps are not even thought about. But because of people like you, we’re able to sponsor kids who are having a great time at @sula.ecuador .Carmen, who just finished building her own small sailboat, told us that “the sea is a special place because it unites sport and nature, and makes it easy to forget about stress and negative things in life. The Venezuelan children are in a difficult situation, but when they sail, bodyboard, swim and snorkel, they smile excitedly. That means they’re enjoying the moment and are happy. Each smile is the most beautiful thing that happens every day, and it makes me look forward to the day with enthusiasm.”
Thank you very much Carmen for your passion and your work with these needy kids. And to you our kind donors, thank you for giving summer fun and education for refugee children.
