Elena from Ukraine

“The only escape from the miseries of life are music and cats.” – Albert Einstein – physicist, refugee, humanitarian.

“Good morning. My name is Elena, I am asking for aid for 3 people living in Kharkiv, Ukraine. I am writing you on behalf of my family. Me, 54 years old, my husband, 54 years old, and my aunt, 83 years old. Because of the war, we were left without a job.”

Elena contacted us and kindly asked for a few basic essentials. A flashlight, batteries, power bank, candles, a lighter, hygiene products, basic canned goods, and contact lenses. “I have been trying to find help around the world for the last 2-3 months. Unfortunately, now we live only due to humanitarian aid. Getting aid is difficult, usually 5-8 hours of waiting outside. Most recent assistance was 1 pack of milk, 1 pack of sugar, 2 small pates. It was provided once per 2 months per family. Now, they only provide aid for people over 75 years old. We also continue to patronize the cats living in the yard. Usually 10 cats live in the yard of our multi apartment building. Due to the current situation, more cats and dogs come to eat in our yard.”

Not very long ago, a Russian rocket landed 100 meters from their apartment. Fortunately, they were not injured but all windows were shattered.

We are happy to help Elena and her family with some basics, which she’s grateful for. When asked why they haven’t left Kharkiv, a battered city close to the Russian border, she gives a few legitimate reasons but her first point was, “We need to take care of the cats. They are almost wild.” We asked Elena if she had anything she wanted to share. “Peaceful sky for everybody!”
