Commands Respect

The ocean is awesome, beautiful, and fun, but also commands respect. Many Venezuelan refugee children on the coast of Ecuador do not know how to enjoy the beach, the ocean, or even swim. This is why for the second year in a row, we’re happy to support Happy Child – Happy Ocean. As our friend and ocean instructor Carmen says, “The objective is for the children to learn different ways of enjoying the sea and the beach, and with biology/environmental classes, they also learn how to care of it. Besides practicing bodyboarding, swimming, snorkeling, they learn so much more. Geography, types of species and their role in the ecosystem, safety, and the impact of pollution. We know that getting to know the sea, its amazing diversity, and different ways of enjoying it, that those are tools that will allow children not only to have fun now, but also to be happy in the future, and to enjoy and take care of the sea.”

For many Venezuelan families, when rent is high and jobs are scarce, it’s impossible for them to give their children a little extra fun and education. We’re happy to give these kids this experience where they can interact with new Ecuadorian friends, learn valuable lessons, and have a lot of fun!
